CLINIQUE D'OSTÉOPATHIE BENOIT CHAMPAGNE
What is osteopathy?
a brief overview
Osteopathy is a manual approach based on anatomy, physiology and movement. The goal is the expression of health.
The osteopath has an in-depth knowledge of the different body systems (musculoskeletal, fascial, vascular, nervous, lymphatic, etc.) so that their interaction can optimize the capacity for self-regulation.
The osteopath looks for the cause of the problem with the clues detected during the initial discussion, during precise observation and palpation tests.
The application of osteopathic techniques adapts to the uniqueness of each person.
Osteopathic intervention is carried out according to the need, position, mobility, vitality and availability of the body structures.

À quoi s'attendre lors de votre séance
Your osteopath will create a file in your name. He will ask you several questions about your overall health at your first meeting. He will then look for clues about the potential causes of the problem.
Then comes the observation and the rigorous and precise palpatory evaluation. Comfortable and fitted clothing is preferable. Depending on the needs, the osteopath may ask to be in underwear. The client may or may not consent to this request.
Postural observation and analysis of various biomechanical and osteopathic concepts are often carried out at the same time as palpation (position, mobility, vitality). Three phases of evaluation are often used: standing, sitting and lying down.
The osteopathic intervention methodology then allows a unique approach. It is always possible to discuss with your osteopath, to question him, as much during the evaluation as during the intervention or even after, before leaving.

Osteopathy today
In 2022, the Quebec Office of Professions published a favorable opinion on the creation of a separate professional order to supervise the profession of osteopathy in Quebec. This is in order to protect the public and guarantee a level of excellence in osteopathy training and practices in Quebec.
Two Quebec universities are working on creating a university program in osteopathy. The University of Quebec in Montreal (UQÀM) and the University of Sherbrooke for a master's program.

History of Osteopathy
Formalized in writings in 1874 by the American doctor Andrew Taylor Still in Kirksville in the United States, osteopathy has over time become anchored in the medical training of this country. In 1897, this doctor founded the "American Osteopathic Association" (AOA) which still represents these osteopathic doctors to this day. Since then, great American osteopaths have participated in osteopathic knowledge and practices and transmitted their knowledge throughout the world, such as Dr. William G. Sutherland (for cranial osteopathy), Harold Magoun, Beryl E. Arbuckle, Anne Wales, Tomas Shooley, Rolland Becker, Tom Dummer, Fred Mitchell, Robert Fulford, Dr. V. Frymann and many others.
In Quebec, it should be noted that the osteopath is not a doctor and does not claim to be one. He works in complementarity and collaboration with other health professions. For more than 40 years, great osteopaths have been transmitting here, the American and European heritage of osteopathy by continuing its evolution and requesting recognition on loan from the Quebec office of professions. Our province is becoming an important pole of this legacy with high-level training and international symposiums. Several have participated or still contribute to this day to the excellence of this transmission, such as Philippe Druelle, Clive Standen, Antony Chila, Bernard Daraillans, René Brien, etc.
We advise people wanting the services of an osteopath in Quebec to inquire about his training. Generally, a rigorous school offers 5 to 7 years of training with a thesis or essay to obtain the title of Diploma in Osteopathy (DO).
